Crochet A Plastic Tote Bag

Crocheted Plastic Tote Bag

This is an ideal project while travelling or watching kids play.  I completed the majority of this bag during the fall soccer season practices and game sessions.   The handles I completed today. Preparation work is easy to do in advance while watching tv, or with a portable cutting board while anywhere.

Woven Lampshade

Woven Lampshade

We have an old lamp that needed a makeover.  I began this project 4 years ago, got stumped, and shelved the project for awhile. Awhile became years as I occasionally thought of it how to resolve the form-fitting issue.  During the past three weeks, I tackled the shade, modified, viewed, and modified some more.  I’m happy to report that it is now finished!  :-)    Here’s how I did it, obstacles and all…

Skill Level:  Experienced (Requires patience, measuring, sewing, and hot glue)

Cost: $20 or less if ribbon is on sale

Time Required:  10 hours (and 3 weeks or 4 years!)

Heart Topiary

Before

After

This is an UnFinished Object (UFO) from last winter.  I’m tired of seeing the unruly growth and this plant is ready for the next stage of the project.  To fully fill in the topiary, it takes approximately 3 to 6 years depending upon the size of plant and its growth rate.  My philodendron plant is 4 years old.  Last year I formed the teepee.  Now I shaped the heart.   From base of plant pot to top of heart, this topiary stands 4 feet high.

Skill Level:  Intermediate (requires strength; some danger from sharp wire; easiest with 2 people)

Cost: less than $20 to purchase the wire (other items are standard tools)

Time Required:  2 & 1/2 hours

Convert Draw String Pants to Elastic Waistband Pants

Before

After
Major pet peeve: archaic draw string pants revitalized by current fashion trends. After utilizing elastic waistbands for decades, why revert backward? After several years annoyance, I decided to do something about it during craft time this week. I researched the method, bought the supplies, and gathered up all of my pants for conversion. Finally, I have no hassle pajama pants that are comfortable! I don’t know why it took me this long to make it a priority!

 Skill Level: Easy
Cost: under $10
Time Required: 1/2 hour per waistband

Shea Butter Lip Balm

Since set-up of this blog space took some time, I went with an Unfinished Object (UFO) for this first week of January. The craft was completed on January 9th. Other stuff got in my way of physically completing this by the 8th, but that’s another story that I don’t plan to bore readers with here. Technically, I’m still on schedule. Though my weekly goal may be a bit lofty, my plan is to post a new craft here by the end of each week.

Skill Level: Easy (Craft requires use of stovetop and microwave).

Cost: The more that you make; the cheaper the cost for each one. Approximately $40 to start with 20 balm pots. This is only a guess-timate since I purchased quantities in bulk for a larger demonstration.

Recommended Time Allowance: 1 hour for beginning with the melting of the beeswax, not including time for clean-up.
