Silver Lake and #7 Dam

Map J

(Lackawanna) Map J 3 miles; easy. 10 mins.from Scranton

From Dunmore corners (Blakley and Drinker Streets) proceed east on Drinker Street about 2 miles, just past Gertrude Hawk Candies. Park on right at top of hill where small road starts down to the right.

You are now walking on the old Stagecoach Road, the only way people had to get into our area way back when. It later became the Drinker Turnpike. Follow the road or the railroad to the Route 380 bridge overhead. Turn left up an incline to see Silver Lake. Don't be surprised to find grouse here. Return to track to see old railroad bridge below which there is a waterfall, directly across the stream (Roaring Brook). Follow tracks back or cut down anywhere and walk along stream to #7 Dam which is so elaborate it looks like a movie set. Track is still being used . Watch for trains. Backtrack to another old railroad bridge, go up embankment turning right to car. Many black locust, gray birch ( so red they often look like cherry) and aspen here.
